The purpose of the Reading
Program is to encourage United Methodist Women:
- To expand understanding of
and participation in God's mission;
- To encourage critical
thinking about issues facing humanity today;
- To grow in understanding of
Scripture as it relates to Christian faith in contemporary life;
- To enhance self-knowledge
and to act from that knowledge; and
- To strengthen involvement in
local and global Christian Mission.
The Reading Program relates to each of
the four mission emphases of the organization of the United Methodist Women:
- Education for Mission
- Nurturing for Community
- Social Action
- Spiritual Growth
The United Methodist Women's
Division chooses the books. Each book has been read by three evaluators
before the book is put on the reading list. The Division does not intend
the readers accept each word or idea. You may or may not agree - either is
all right. They care and want you to be a knowledgeable and caring
Christian about current issues.
The books are located on the
East wall of the Church Library. |
