Leslie Griffiths is a member
of the British House of Lords. He takes the
Labour Whip and sits on the government benches.
He speaks on euthanasia, the churches and civic
society, the relationship between Christianity
and other faiths, and social subjects as well as
international affairs. He was born in Burry
Port, Carmarthenshire. He received his B.A. in
Wales, M.A. at Cambridge and PH.D. in London.
Rev. Dr. Griffiths was ordained
to the Methodist ministry in Haiti in 1973,
where he served until 1980. He has led various
initiatives in community development,
irrigation, clean drinking water, primary health
care, adult literacy, reforestation and
spiritual development. Out of this came two
books: "The History of Methodism in Haiti"
(1991) and "The Aristide Factor" (1996), a
biography of the Roman Catholic priest Jean
Bertrand Aristide who became President of Haiti
in 1991. Rev. Dr. Griffiths was President of the
Methodist Conference 1994-1995 and is Chairman
of the College of Preachers. He has written six
books on religious and historical themes, is a
regular columnist and has been broadcasting on
the BBC for two decades. He is married to
Margaret, a radiographer, now retired. The
couple have three grown married children. |
