Staff

Senior Pastor, Dr. Walter "Bubba" Smith, a native of Nashville, Arkansas, received his License to Preach in 1972 while a student at Hendrix College. Dr. Smith is a Chaplain, Col., United States Air Force Reserves and received his Masters of Divinity from St. Paul School of Theology, Kansas City, Missouri; his Doctorate of Ministry from Drew University, Madison, New Jersey; and graduated from the Air War College. He has served for 18 years as a volunteer chaplain for the Arkansas State Police.

A life long Methodist, Dr. Smith is married to the former Diane Allen of Bismarck, Arkansas. They have two children, daughter Meredith Caver, and son Will, a recent graduate of the University of Arkansas, and two grandchildren. He is a Master Grill/BBQ chef and BBQ Grill Skills Instructor and is a proud graduate of Lotta Bull U and The BBQ Institute.

Dr. Smith has led 18 mission trips to Haiti and he serves on the Pignon, Haiti Hospital Board of Directors.

 

Associate Pastor Helen Stegall is a native Arkansan from the Pulaski County area. She is a deacon, certified in Spiritual Formation. She and her husband Phil have two children. Their daughter Elizabeth Fowlkes lives in Deatur, Georgia with her husband Thomas and their son Carter. The Stegall's son Patrick and daughter-in-law Kirstin live in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania and have a daughter named Eavan born in 2010.

Associate Pastor & Minister of Music, Reverend Pat Henry, is a multi-instrumentalist, playing trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, flute and other instruments. He has directed church choirs for over 40 years.  Pat is a native of the western Texas plains and is a graduate of West Texas State University (now West Texas A & M) in Canyon, Texas. He has also attended supplemental music schools at Midwestern University, Indiana University, the University of Denver and Southern Methodist University. Pat is also a graduate of the American School of Piano Tuning, and is the only factory-certified Yamaha piano technician in Arkansas. Pat has been a Certified Advanced Lay-Speaker in the Methodist church for several years and is currently a Deacon in the ordination process. Pat and his family have been Arkansans for over thirty-five years and Pat has been active in music during that time. Pat and his wife, June, have three sons and eight grandchildren.

Minister of Visitation, Reverend John Atherton, joined our staff on July 1, 2011. He is a retired pastor from the Northern Illinois Conference. He is a graduate of Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL. He served local churches throughout his ministry.

His wife, Marilyn, is a member of our church. They have one daughter, Jonalyn, and a son, Piet.

 

Organist, Accompanist and director of Bells of the Hills, Nikki Saltmarsh joined our staff in September 2009. She holds music degrees in organ from the University of Alaska of Fairbanks and served for 16 years at Fairbanks' First United Methodist Church. She was active in many other performing and teaching activities in the music community there as well. Here in Hot Springs Village, she accompanies the Village Chorale. She has two daughters.

Office Administrator, Kathy Bracke, joined the COH staff in January, 2004. She grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago with her four older brothers and graduated from Wittenberg University with a BA in Special Education.  Kathy and her husband, Rob owned and operated Impression Makers Printing in the Chicago area from 1988 until 1997 when they moved the shop to Arkansas and operated it until 2004. Kathy and Rob have a daughter, Christina, who attends the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

 

Secretary, Marilyn Hunt, joined the Christ of the Hills staff in 2006. Husband Marion and she came to the Village from Southeast Texas, near Houston, where she was raised on the family rice farm with four siblings. Marilyn has a BS in Horticulture from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, and worked at a large wholesale nursery for 11 years. Her church work experience includes Administrative Assistant at Wharton First UMC, Wharton, Texas. Marilyn and Marion currently have three cats (and that's enough livestock for now!).

Sheila McCallum, Web Minister and Communication Coordinator, joined our staff in February 2010. She is a native Arkansan and an IBM Retiree with a 20 year career as a Software Product Planner in Distributed Systems. She was educated at Henderson State University, Arkadelphia, AR; Austin Community College, Austin, Texas; and Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina; plus an endless amount of technical courses at IBM. Sheila and her husband, Bill, owned a computer company, B&S In-Home Computer Service, L.L.C. where they provided computer training and software support. She is a member of the P.E.O. organization and is leader of the Lay Hospital Visitation team at Christ of the Hills UMC and sings in the choir. Sheila spends her off-time at their cattle farm in the DeGray community outside of Arkadelphia.

Jackie Gullahorn, Coordinator of Discipleship and Education, joined the COH staff in February 2011.  She is a native Texan who moved to Arkansas in 1972. She recently retired after twenty years as Deputy Director of an Arkansas State agency. She and her husband, Tom, have three children and five grandchildren. Two of the children live in the Dallas area and one lives in Arkansas. In addition to her work at church, she is very active in the HSV Players and has performed countless productions both in the Village and Hot Springs. She attended the University of Texas at Arlington as a music major and sings in the COH choir.

Delma Jensen, Treasurer, joined our staff in January 2009. She is a native Arkansan, retired from Alcoa in the area of Finance. She is married to Wayne Jensen and has one son, Rodney, and daughter-in-law, Debbie of Hurst, Texas. She received her education at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansaas. Delma is a licensed CPA in the state of Arkansas and holds membership in the Arkansas Society of CPAs. In addition to church employment, she is currently employed by a local company in Hot Springs. In her off-hours, Delma enjoys gardening and reading.

 

Ken McAndrews, Building Superintendent, joined the Christ of the Hills staff in April 1996. He was born in Philadelphia, raised in California, and moved from Seattle, Washington to Hot Springs Village. Ken spent his career as a landscaper and along with maintaining the building and grounds at Christ of the Hills, he continues to garden for individuals and companies in the area. Ken has 3 children, Anna, Sofi, and Jacob, and three grandchildren.

Brooke Crumpler is originally from El Dorado, AR, where she grew up attending Parkers Chapel UMC. After high school she moved to Fayetteville, AR and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Communication from the University of Arkansas. She moved to the Hot Springs area in the spring of 2009 to pursue a passion for youth ministry. As an active youth herself, Brooke served on Conference and Jurisdictional levels of the United Methodist Church. These experiences guide her in her ministry and she strives to provide opportunity for today's youth to grow in their faith and make lifelong friends in the process.
